Ethan Parker gets up every day, surviving the only way he knows how—alone. Orphaned as a child and forced into the child welfare system, he knows better than to depend on anyone but himself. He’s learned trust is a word used all too often, but rarely earned. Ethan believes that his best chance for maintaining a simple and solitary existence is to live by a simple mantra: Don’t get involved. Keep things simple. Take care of yourself! When a young woman moves in next door, Ethan is forced to reevaluate his beliefs. He tries to keep his distance, but his new neighbor’s infectious smile and outlook on life leave him struggling with the decision of living the life he knows, or taking a chance on the unexpected. As Ethan develops a relationship with his new neighbor, Emily, he realizes nothing is simple and learns that life is about more than just surviving... it’s about living.

My Review ~ 3.75/5 stars!!
Ethan Parker is all alone. Orphaned as a child and put in the system he has survived the only way he knows how, depending on no one but himself. All that starts to change when Emily knocks on his door. Emily is sweet and friendly with a smile that is contagious. She is also going through some things that Ethan feels he needs to protect her from. Ethan and Emily's relationship slowly grows (in a span of 15 years) into so much more. They learn so much about themselves and each other over the years and it grows into something beautiful.
I loved Ethan and Emily. Their journey was sweet with a few bumps along the way but worked out in the end. Since I read the adult version it definitely got HOT also. The only thing that I would have to complain about is that it being a novella wasn't long enough. This story could have been so much more if it was a full length novel. I felt like some things where a little rushed and not given enough face-time. It was an enjoyable, sweet little read but if it was fleshed out a little more it could have been a GREAT story!!
