Sometimes you can't help falling in love, even when you try to do the opposite...Successful fashion blogger McKenna Bell has spent far too long protecting herself after the way her ex-fiancĂ© left her at the altar for a college chick he met the night of his bachelor party. Loving again, trusting again, well, that's just not in the cards. Especially now that her ex is back in town with his new woman, demanding custody of McKenna's favorite creature in the whole world--her dog. No effing way. McKenna's had enough of him, and she decides to even the score by finding her own hot young thing -- a Trophy Husband. Sure, she's only twenty-seven, but doesn't that make it even more fun -- and infuriating to her ex -- to pursue a younger man? When she declares her intentions on her daily blog, her quest quickly skyrockets in popularity, and that's when Chris enters the picture, and he’s got all the assets. He's handsome, successful, and turns her inside out with a kiss to end all kisses, the kind that makes you feel like a shooting star. But loving again could mean losing again, and it's so much easier to focus on getting even, isn't it? Unless, you just can't help falling in love. Which means McKenna will have to come face to face with what she really wants in life -- protecting her heart from hurt, or letting go of her fears of a new beginning.
Hello Lauren thank you so much for taking the time to give Alphas Authors & Books Oh My an Interview. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I love shoes, and shopping, and fashion, and cookies, and cake, and romantic comedies, and dogs, and my family, most of all.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer and what inspired your first book?
My first novel, Caught Up In Us, was inspired by my love of romantic movies. I wanted to write about a character who craved that kind of movie love. As for Trophy Husband, the idea came to me a few years ago as I hosted a gals’ poker night at my house with some other married moms. We were chatting about various “what if” scenarios and an interesting hypothetical arose: “If the aliens came tomorrow and took your husband, god forbid, would you at some point want to snag a trophy husband?” Immediately, I started thinking about the writerly possibilities - of a trophy husband, not husband-snatching aliens - and knew I needed a plot to go along with the fun notion of a hot young thing. Because trophy husbands are quite rare, the natural storyline seemed to be the pursuit of one, and that’s what Trophy Husband is about, along with a tale of falling in love when you’re trying to do the opposite.
What do you consider the hardest part of writing a book?
The part when the characters refuse to do what I want them to do.
Your newest release is Trophy Husband can you describe your book in 30 words or less?
Trophy Husband is about falling in love when you’re trying to do the opposite. In the story, McKenna embarks on a quest for a trophy husband because she thinks it’ll help protect her from past hurts, but along the way she meets someone who rocks her world.
What Genre do you consider your books?
Sexy contemporary romance, with a touch of sweet and a bit of humor. (I hope!)
Is there any other Genre you would like to write and why?
I'll be writing some sexier novels for the Entangled Brazen line with a higher heat level, and I also enjoy writing in other genres as well.
What was your favorite character to write out of all of your books?
I loved writing McKenna and Chris in Trophy Husband because of their love of games and their banter. I also enjoy all my dog characters because I love dogs so much.
What do you do while you write? Do you listen to music, watch TV, eat snacks, need quiet, etc.?
Consume copious amounts of caffeine. Nibble on chocolate. Talk to the voices in my head :)
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Ideally, sleep. But that doesn't happen often, so I spend my free time with my kids, my husband and my dogs.
What can we expect from you next?
I’m currently working on Playing With My Heart, slated for a late summer release. The main character in that story is Jill McCormick, who is both the best friend in Caught Up In Us and the sister of the hero in Trophy Husband. Playing With My Heart tells Jill’s story when she’s cast in her first Broadway musical and encounters a complicated relationship with her co-star and her director. I also have a hot firefighter series in the works. In addition, my novel, The Break-Up Album, releases in October with Entangled, and that’s my rock-star-in-love story!
Now for the fun stuff, Bad boy or boy next door?
Boy-next-door. I like the good guys!
Comedy or Horror?
Comedy all the way! I can't do horror. I'm a fraidy cat!
Night Owl or Morning Person?
Both.
Butt, eyes or chest?
All ideally, in perfection. But eyes first, then chest, then butt. But not if the butt is saggy. No saggy butts, please!
Vanilla, Strawberry, or Chocolate?
Chocolate!
Thank you again for taking the time to let us interview you. Do you have anything else you would like to say to your fans?
I love all my readers!! I love hearing from them and writing for them! They make me happy.
Lauren Blakely is an unabashed fan of clever jokes, toast, and good guys in novels. Like the heroine in CAUGHT UP IN US, she thinks life should be filled with movie kisses and coffee drinks. Lauren lives in California with her husband and children, and spends her days writing both true stories and make-believe ones.
