Watch Over Me by Tara Sivec Blog Tour - Review

Hi, Kelli here! I'm super excited to be a part of the Watch Over Me Tour.

Watch Over Me by Tara Sivec

Release Date: June 14, 2013

Book Blurb:
Addison Snow is your typical teenager. She has a family that loves her, friends that make her laugh, and she's wrapped up in the excitement of graduating high school and going off to college to pursue her dream of becoming an author. When her mother, who also happens to be Addison's best friend, dies unexpectedly, her world comes to a crashing halt.

Death changes everyone...

To make the pain go away, Addison and her father travel down separate, dark paths. She chooses to end her grief forever, while he drowns his sorrows in the bottom of a bottle. How do you learn to live again when the most important person in your life is gone?

Addison struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. Instead of getting back to being the carefree teenager she once was, she's stuck handling all of the responsibilities that should have been her father's. She has no time to grieve, no time for emotions, and no time for happiness...until Zander Reinhardt walks in. All it takes is one little handwritten note on a napkin to kickstart her back to life and help her realize that maybe there's more to that life than pain.

But can it really be that simple? Can she really trust this man who makes her feel alive again for the first time in a year?Addison and Zander both have secrets they aren't ready to share. When the truth finally comes out, is it enough to tear them apart or has something bigger than themselves always been watching over them, pushing them together, making sure they both get their happily ever after?

My Review:
I am a *HUGE* fan of Tara Sivec's writing and Watch Over Me could possibly be her best work yet. The prologue of this book is so captivating and it just gets better. Before I get to more of my thoughts, I just wanted to point out how cool it was that she uses song titles as chapter titles. And they are all relevant to the part of the story being told. Amazing.
Addison Snow is one of the most realistic voices I have found in fiction. She's nowhere near perfect, accepts that, knows that and it really makes you fall a bit in love with her. She has a rough life and is dealing with it the best way she knows how: by NOT dealing. Addison has shut down and just tries to take her life minute by minute. She hasn't let herself feel since her mother died. This all changes when Zander Reinhardt walks into her life. And how adorable is he!! I don't think there's a woman on this planet who could have resisted him. Both leads have secrets they're hiding from each other and I enjoyed watching them work through their issues to be together.
There are so many notes and highlighted quotes in my book - I truly loved so many things about this book. From the napkin notes he'd leave her daily to his Lego analogy about life, Zander rocketed his way into my (and Addison's) heart. I found the style compelling - the jumps between past and present, the doctor's visits - and it gave us so much info into what Addison was going through and how she was dealing with it all. Her relationship with her father was absolutely heartbreaking. Her Facebook messages made me cry.
Watch Over Me is a story that will break your heart, make you laugh and smile, and compel you to read in one sitting. I found no faults in this book. It's a gritty, emotionally complicated story that I enjoyed more than I thought I would considering the content. Basically, I can't describe it any better than Zander himself:
"It's the bumps and the bruises, the pain and the fear; it's messy and it's real and it's not some perfect little story that can be tied up in a bow."

Easily a 5 star rated book and I recommend it for everyone.
